SCHUNDLER> Consensus gubernatorial nominee in 2001, won June
2001 primary without significant opposition, successfully withstood
brief effort July 2000 by Senator ROBERT TORRICELLI to enter race,
following failure of Torricelli effort received endorsement of broad
cross-section of Party leaders, undermining challenges from
potential opponents including Congressmen WILLIAM PASCRELL, FRANK
PALLONE, NJ Senator RICHARD CODEY, lawyer MICHAEL MURPHY> Also
1997 Democratic gubernatorial nominee, won June primary race,
defeating principal opponents Congressman ROB ANDREWS and attorney
MICHAEL MURPHY> Lost general election to Governor CHRISTINE TODD
WHITMAN by surprisingly narrow 26,000 votes, with Whitman receiving
46.9% and McGreevey 45.8% of total votes, in race focused on
property tax levels and auto insurance premium rates> Served
as State Senator for 19th district 1994-98, defeated Republican
incumbent Randy Corman by 3,400 votes in 1993 election, gave up seat
after one term to enter gubernatorial race> First elected Mayor
of Woodbridge 1992, re-elected 1995, 1999 with 70% of vote> Also
served as Chairman of NJ Democratic Leadership Council, policy forum
for centrist Democrats on fiscal and social issues modeled on
